Audio Level and Speaker Volume Control

Audio volume controls and attenuators regulate signal or speaker level without requiring adjustment at the source equipment. Applications range from component-level electronic controls to wall-mounted controls used with distributed speaker systems.

Speaker Attenuators

Speaker attenuators reduce output level while maintaining an appropriate load for the audio system. Match the attenuator to the amplifier and speaker configuration, including impedance, line voltage and required power handling.

70V and 25V Volume Controls

Distributed commercial audio systems commonly use 70V or 25V speaker lines. Controls designed for these systems should be selected according to system voltage and the total connected speaker load.

Impedance-Matching Volume Controls

Impedance-matching controls are used in multi-speaker installations where several speaker pairs may be connected to a common amplifier. Correct configuration helps maintain a suitable load for the amplifier.

Audio Potentiometers

Component-style potentiometers provide variable resistance for equipment-level audio control and repair applications. Compare resistance value, taper, shaft style, switch configuration and mounting dimensions before replacing an existing control.

Selecting an Audio Volume Control

Determine whether the application uses a low-impedance speaker circuit, distributed 70V or 25V audio, or an electronic signal-level control. Then compare power rating, resistance or impedance, mounting style and control configuration.
