Centronics Connectors & Accessories

Centronics-style connectors use a ribbon-contact interface in a rectangular shell and were widely adopted for parallel printers, legacy SCSI, telecom and industrial equipment. Common contact counts include 24, 36 and 50 positions, but the electrical use of the connector depends on the equipment and application.

This category includes male and female cable connectors, side-entry and other shell styles, mating hardware and related accessories used to build or repair Centronics and telco-style cable assemblies.

For a correct replacement, match the contact count, gender, termination method, cable exit/orientation and application. A 50-position connector used in telecom wiring is not automatically interchangeable with a 50-position connector used for legacy SCSI.

Selecting Centronics Connectors & Accessories

Identify the exact contact count first. The familiar 36-position Centronics connector is strongly associated with parallel printers, while 50-position versions appear in SCSI and telco/breakout applications. Other counts are also used in specialized equipment.

Match the termination method to the cable and assembly process. Solder, IDC and other terminations require different tooling, conductor preparation and strain-relief arrangements.

Check the connector gender and mating hardware. Cable-side shells, bail-lock hardware, screws and hood geometry must match the equipment-side connector and the required cable exit direction.

When replacing a legacy cable assembly, preserve the original pinout and shielding arrangement. The Centronics mechanical format does not define one universal signal assignment across printer, SCSI, telecom and proprietary industrial uses.
