Electronic Interconnect Components

Electronic connectors provide electrical and mechanical interfaces between circuit boards, wiring, cable assemblies, equipment panels and removable modules. Connector systems range from compact board-level products to larger multi-position interfaces used in computers, instrumentation, industrial controls and communications equipment.

This category is intended for component-level interconnect products rather than finished Ethernet, fiber or audio/video cable assemblies.

Board, Cable and Panel Connections

Electronic connector systems may be designed for direct printed-circuit-board mounting, cable termination, panel mounting or combinations of these methods. Choosing the appropriate mounting arrangement is important for both mechanical fit and electrical performance.

Common Connector Families

Products in this category can include D-subminiature connectors, IDC connectors, PCB headers and receptacles, pin-and-socket systems, DIN-style connectors, crimp housings, contacts and other electronic interconnect formats.

Termination Methods

Depending on the connector family, contacts may be terminated using solder, crimp, insulation displacement, screw terminals or direct PCB mounting. The termination style should be matched to wire size, tooling and the intended manufacturing or field-installation process.

Contact Count and Pitch

Connector compatibility depends on more than the general connector family. Contact count, spacing, shell size, orientation and mechanical keying can all determine whether two components mate correctly.

Connector Housings and Hardware

Many connector systems use separate housings, contacts, backshells, strain-relief components, mounting screws or other accessories. These parts should be matched to the specific connector series and shell size.

Common Applications

  • Industrial controls and automation equipment
  • Computer and peripheral hardware
  • Instrumentation and test equipment
  • PCB assemblies
  • Wire harnesses
  • Communications equipment
  • Electronic repair and maintenance
  • Custom cable assemblies

Verify Connector Compatibility

Before ordering, confirm the connector family, contact count, gender, pitch, mounting orientation, termination method and electrical ratings. Similar-looking connectors are not necessarily interchangeable.
