APC Network and Server UPS Systems

APC network and server power protection centers on Smart-UPS and Symmetra families designed for business-critical IT loads such as servers, storage systems, routers, switches and voice/data equipment.

Smart-UPS covers a broad range of network UPS applications, while Smart-UPS On-Line provides double-conversion protection for more sensitive or demanding loads. Smart-UPS Ultra uses lithium-ion technology in compact high-density designs, and Symmetra platforms add modularity and redundancy for applications that need scalable availability.

UPS selection should account for topology, watts and VA, rack or tower form factor, voltage, outlet or hardwire requirements, runtime, network management, external batteries and maintenance strategy.

Engineering APC UPS Protection for IT Loads

Server and network loads often operate continuously, so the UPS must be sized for both present demand and planned expansion. In rack deployments, usable rack space and installation depth matter along with electrical capacity.

For applications that cannot tolerate transfer time or significant input-power disturbances, online double-conversion systems maintain the load from the inverter continuously. For other IT applications, line-interactive Smart-UPS models may provide the right balance of efficiency, voltage regulation and battery backup.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I consider Smart-UPS On-Line instead of standard Smart-UPS?

Consider online double-conversion protection when the load is especially sensitive, the input power is poor, or the application requires zero transfer time to battery operation.

What should be included in an APC server UPS design?

UPS capacity, topology, voltage, runtime, rack/tower form factor, battery expansion, network management, bypass and service access should be considered together.
