Distributing One HDMI Source to Multiple Displays

HDMI splitters duplicate the signal from a single HDMI source and send it to multiple outputs. They are commonly used where the same content must appear on several displays, projectors or other HDMI-equipped devices.

1x2, 1x4 and 1x8 HDMI Splitters

The splitter configuration indicates the number of inputs and outputs. A 1x4 model, for example, accepts one HDMI source and distributes it to four outputs. Choose enough outputs for the current installation while considering future expansion.

4K, HDR and HDMI Compatibility

Resolution and feature support vary by device. Verify the required 1080p or 4K format, refresh rate, color format, HDR support and HDMI specification against both the source equipment and connected displays.

HDCP and EDID Considerations

HDCP compatibility affects protected digital content, while EDID communication helps the source determine supported display formats. In multi-display systems, confirm that the splitter's EDID behavior is appropriate for the connected equipment.

HDMI Distribution Amplifiers

Powered distribution amplifiers actively distribute the HDMI signal across multiple outputs. They are useful in equipment racks, presentation environments, digital signage and other systems requiring reliable multi-display signal distribution.

Selecting an HDMI Splitter

Start with the number of displays, then compare required resolution, HDR and HDCP support, EDID features and connection distance. HDMI switchers and matrix systems perform different routing functions and should be selected separately.
